Snapology

Emerson Elementary School is partnering with Snapology to bring an awesome opportunity to your child.

Snapology of Midland is an academic enrichment organization serving the city of Midland and its environs. Their mission is to provide children with an opportunity to engage in “playful learning” activities that will stimulate their creativity and spark an interest in learning. Snapology instructors have been trained in the programs, have experience teaching, and many are certified. Research has shown that many children’s best learning experiences come when they interact with materials, design, create, and invent with them. Their activities offer students an environment where they are encouraged to create and interact with materials and technology, enabling them to explore solutions through hands-on “playful” learning.

Programs are in the four categories described below:

  1. Robotics - Children build and code robots using LEGO® materials and coding software.
  2. Engineering - Children learn about engineering and apply concepts while building with technic pieces, power functions, & LEGO® bricks.
  3. Core STEAM - Includes things like movie making, Science, Architecture, and STEAM competitions using LEGO® bricks and technology.
  4. Themed - Children complete building tasks using LEGO® bricks related to topics like Minecraft, Star Wars, Ninjago, Pokemon, Superheroes, Harry Potter, and more.

Classes will be held from 3:15- 4:15 pm on Wednesdays. Please sign up using the link.

Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation

STEM Lab

The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation helps at-risk youth to engage in age-appropriate STEM learning in a structured environment with trained teachers and mentors who make science, technology, engineering, and math compelling and fun.  Elementary and Middle school-aged youth participating in well-implemented, high quality out-of-schoolKids with STEM kits programs reap a range of positive benefits, including higher reading and math scores, increased self-esteem, higher school attendance, and decreased dropout rates. The Ripken Foundation’s STEM program is turnkey and can be implemented easily in any community and requires no set space, giving underserved kids in disadvantaged neighborhoods the opportunity to participate.

The STEM Lab materials will be open for teachers to checkout for student STEM activities during the school day.  If you would like to volunteer to help, then please reach out to our Family Liaison, Micah McGhee, to sign up and volunteer your time to support teachers in the classroom!
